Words from the Chief

Our Chief...

Hello everyone. I hope you all had a nice summer and I can't wait to start off this OA year as Lodge Chief. My goals this year is to have fun, to get Most Indian Lodge Award, and to have more Arrowmen active in Hungteetsepoppi events. I have a great set of vice officers this year that I know will get their jobs done, and I know we will have a great year.

Yours in Brotherhood
Will C.

10 Lodge Members Attended ArrowCorps5 in July

Shasta - Trinity National Forest
July 12-19th, 2008

Shasta - Trinity National Forest

10 Poppi Arrowmen Went To Shasta for ArrowCorps5

In a new program of national service, the Order of the Arrow, an honor society for the Boys Scouts of America, offered ArrowCorps5 to both youth and adult Arrowmen. Described as "one of the largest conservation efforts in Scouting's history" by the Boy Scouts of America, approximately 5,000 Arrowmen converged on five different National Forest sites to work on various conservation projects. These projects included building new trails, restoring old trails, and helping remove thousands of tons of trash in an illegal dump site, in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service.
Hungteetsepoppi Lodge from Piedmont Council sent 10 Arrowmen last week to the ArrowCorps5 Shasta-Trinity National Forest Project. The Arrowmen were Lodge Advisor Kevin Fischer, OA adult members Rick Clark and Randy Litteneker. The OA youth members were, Mike and Will C., Kevin C., Derek DeR., Alan L., and Jim and John W. "The project is an opportunity to highlight the value of community service," said Brenda Tracy, Acting Public Uses Staff Officer for the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. "This will be one of the largest volunteer service projects ever performed on National Forest System lands." The Shasta-Trinity National Forest Project consisted of several elements of work on the Pacific Crest Trail. Arrowmen rebuilt feeder trails to the Pacific Crest Trail, cleared an illegal dump site, and performed trail maintenance and fuel reduction at sites along the Pacific Crest Trail near Mt.Shasta. These sites were located approximately 30 miles from the Shasta-Trinity fire complex.
After the week of work was completed, the Arrowmen were given a day off to do exciting activities like climb Mt. Lassen, explore caves, go to the beach, or play a round of golf at the local country club. During the closing ceremony, the Undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture, Mark E. Ray, congratulated everyone on “…a job that would not have been completed without the Order of the Arrow’s help.”

Words from the Past Chief....

Dear fellow Arrowmen,
It has been a great honor serving the lodge the past year. Our lodge is truly great because of its members, and I thank everyone in the lodge for giving me the chance to be lodge chief. We had a very successful year, hosting a great conclave at Coast Guard Island, sending 10 Arrowmen to Arrowcorps 5, and being active locally in the council.
We have had a great couple of months, at our June BBQ; we had some great food, fun times and elected new lodge leadership. We also sent a large contingent to this years national scouting event, Arrowcorps 5, where we participated in the largest civilian service project since World War II. All of us had a great time repairing trails in the Shasta Trinity National Forest.
I have great confidence in our newly elected lodge leadership; Will, John, Gideon, and Burr will lead Hungteetsepoppi to another great year.
Yours in Brotherhood,
Jim W.
